Kenwood Boys Varsity Takes Sixth Place Despite Scoring Snafu; Dixon Romeo and Joseph Laseter, Jocelyn Scott Get All-City!

Kenwood Takes 6th Place At CPS XC Championships
Oct 18, 2009, 12:56 am

I just wanted to say that the Kenwood Varsity Boys team ran a good race today at Chicago City XC Championships. We had tremendous performances by Joseph Laseter (All-City), Terrell James and Victor Guerrero. Because of their contributions we were able to hold on to 6th place despite the fact that the scoring was wrong and put us in 8th place. In the end we ended up behind Northside, Lane, Mather, Whitney Young and Jones. We were hoping to come in 5th but Jones ran a great race today. Omar Tall has not fully recovered from his flu, but he trudged through the crappy weather and finished a repectable 17:25. I want to remind everyone that Joe, Omar and everyone has what it takes to attain our season goal: a trip to state!

The Frosh-Soph boys did very well coming in 6th place when noone even predicted a showing. Congratulations to Dixon Romeo who placed All-City and had a great race leading the Frosh-Soph team!

Here is a link to the results from today's races. http://dyestatil.com//?pg=dyestatil-2009-Cross-Country-Chicago-City-Championships&PHPSESSID=496a6f9db2578042b76aea93a580a6cf

I thought I would also include a clip from last year's 800 meter Frosh-Soph race when Omar came from behind and captured first place from everyone. It made me smile to see this race again. We are capable of coming from behind and winning this season the way we want it won!

Promontory Point Meet Moved to 39th Due To Weddings
Sep 26, 2009, 12:27 am

After years of hosting our October Saturday meets at the Point, we will move our October 3 meet to 39th street beach due to the high frequency of weddings at the popular venue. The new location will not be like the point but it will offer some great views like the point and have more variety including some gentle hills and zig-zags through some wooded areas. The availability of restroom facilities is still questionable. The exact location of the course is south of the beach area. There is parking available but buses will probably have to be parked on 39th Street. If you have any questions regarding the new venue, email me at iasarudi@cps.edu.

Hybrid Workout
Sep 23, 2009, 12:20 pm

Next week we start working on fartleks. Here's what's in store for Monday. Its a tough workout, but will be very crucial in helping us get to where we want to be: State Championships!

Being prepared for this workout is key: drink plenty of water, EAT! (nutritiously), get some rest the night before and be mentally prepared.

Omar Tall leads XC Broncos to great results
Sep 20, 2009, 7:33 am

Junior Omar Tall posted his fastest 3 mile time on Saturday at the Warren Township Blue Devil Invitational. He led our boys team with a 16:07 time followed by Junior Joseph Laseter (16:47), Senior Wilson Tan (17:47), Sophomore Yusef Hood (18:39), Junior Victor Guerrero (18:57), Junior Terrel James (19:00), and Junior Deon Morrissette (19:05).

Overall the team made some major improvements and looked great. We need to tighten the pack and that will be the focus this week as we head into our next training phase. This week will be a hard training week as we head to the Tuesday Mather meet and compete at the Whitney Young Invite on Saturday.
